Fixed drop-in indications
For a special roller or link design, use the actual exact-model compatibility guidance. A generic speed count is not a substitute for the expressly named system.
What this choice changes
The CC-4.2 is a fixed drop-in gauge, so it offers marked indication levels rather than an analog window or an LCD number. It contacts a longer chain section in three places. Compare the contact format and the chain systems explicitly named for this version, not just the number of marks on the tool.
Park Tool identifies 0.5%, 0.75% and 1.0% indications and names supported 5–13-speed and single-speed chains. SRAM Flattop and T-Type, Shimano XTR 12-speed and Campagnolo Ekar 13-speed are expressly included in its current guidance. Do not transfer those statements to an older CC-4 or to another gauge simply because it is shown in the same family chart.
Choose the CC-2 if a mechanical moving readout is the format you want, or the CC-3.2 if its narrower documented chain scope and two fixed indications meet the need. The appropriate replacement decision still comes from the exact chain maker; the marks are not a universal service-life rule.

This is a fixed-indication tool. A moving mechanical scale and an electronic display offer different reading formats, not automatically greater accuracy.
Both are fixed-indication gauges, but CC-4.2 has three contacts, an additional 1.0% indication and expressly named chain systems that CC-3.2 does not claim.
Its documented format provides fixed go/no-go indications, not a calibrated intermediate numerical readout. Compare the CC-2 moving-window format if that is the reading style you need, while checking its different chain coverage.
No. Interpret the indicated condition using the exact chain maker’s recommendation; the marks are not universal replacement instructions.
