Two axle contacts in a self-opening assembly
The AV-1 holds a supported axle in a bench vise while hub work is performed. Its two receptacles serve the maker’s stated 9 mm and 10 mm axle contacts. Those sizes are not quick-release skewer diameters and should not be used to infer general thru-axle compatibility.
The aluminum insert assembly opens as the bench vise opens. Choose it when those two round contacts are the workholding requirement and the simpler format suits the vise. It does not provide the clamping mechanism of a complete bench vise.
Compare AV-5 if the bench also needs its separate hex-tool, housing/hose and additional round contacts. That broader contact arrangement is a real difference, rather than merely another color of the same insert. Neither product guarantees that every hub axle or finish can be clamped without damage.
