The job

A two-gauge set for 100–160 mm open-dropout arrangements; thru-axle frames/forks excluded.

Role

Frame/fork dropout-parallelism gauges

Confirm dropout construction

The width range applies only within the supported dropout arrangement; thru-axle versions are excluded.

What this choice changes

Check supported dropout parallelism

The FFG-2 checks whether the supported frame or fork dropout ends are aligned and parallel. Its two matching gauges provide a different reference from a derailleur-hanger tool that compares the hanger with the rim. Choose the measurement according to the actual alignment relationship you need to investigate.

Park Tool specifies dropout widths from 100 to 160 mm and explicitly excludes thru-axle frames and forks. A suitable width therefore does not by itself establish compatibility: dropout construction is another requirement. The long handles are part of the tool architecture, not evidence that every measured error may be corrected.

The maker permits measuring carbon-fiber dropouts but does not permit correcting them with this tool. Keep that distinction when planning the service. Detecting misalignment in another component also does not establish that bending is appropriate; use the frame or fork maker’s permitted assessment and repair path.

Confirm dropout construction

Separate measurement from correction

A measuring contact does not establish material repairability or authorize bending.

Fit checks & limits

  • No carbon-fiber correction or universal aluminum/frame repair permission.

Questions before you choose

Will it work on a thru-axle fork?

Park Tool explicitly excludes thru-axle frames and forks for FFG-2.

Can I use it to straighten carbon dropouts?

No. The maker distinguishes permitted measurement from correction, which it does not permit for carbon dropouts.

How is it different from DAG-3?

FFG-2 compares the supported dropout ends. DAG-3 uses a rim reference to investigate derailleur-hanger alignment.
