What this choice changes
Guide the blade without buying an integrated saw
The SG-8 guides a separate hacksaw blade while the supported tube is held for an approved cutting operation. It does not contain a blade or powered cutting mechanism. This distinction matters when comparing a guide-only price with the complete equipment needed at the bench.
Park Tool specifies round tubes 22–33 mm, including the named 1,1-1/8 and 1-1/4-inch steering-column systems. The blade slot accepts the stated carbon-specific blade format up to 2.5 mm wide. Tube contact and blade-slot fit are separate requirements, and neither establishes permission to shorten every handlebar or steerer.
The composite guide body uses steel threads and a reinforcing plate. Provide a suitable vise, hacksaw and the correct blade, and follow the actual component’s cutting requirements. Park Tool directs conventional steel-blade use to SG-6 rather than treating the two guide slots as interchangeable.
