Spring-loaded retention for a separately selected bottom-bracket tool, used during initial loosening or final tightening.
Spring-loaded retention; no cup-engagement socket included
First match the cup socket or wrench to the component. Then check whether the BBT-RS configuration can retain it on that spindle.
What this choice changes
The BBT-RS addresses a different problem from choosing the right cup socket: retaining that socket or handled tool against the fitting. Its adjustable spring pressure supports tool engagement in the configurations named by Park Tool. It is an accessory for the actual working tool, so buying it alone does not provide a bottom-bracket remover.
The assembly uses an M8 × 1.0 rod and a double-sided M12 × 1.0 / M15 × 1.0 adapter. These are retaining-system interfaces, not the frame’s bottom-bracket shell threads. Check the maker’s configuration instructions for the spindle, cup tool and available clearance; the compatibility list includes several tools but does not cover every Park Tool or third-party socket.
The manual limits the system to initial loosening and final tightening. It is not intended to remain fixed throughout the cup’s removal. It also calls for thread lubrication to avoid seizure. Those setup details matter when deciding whether it fits the job, particularly where a protruding spindle may prevent a shorter socket from engaging.

A retaining system cannot make a short socket clear an obstructing spindle. Follow the specific manual setup rather than tightening it indiscriminately.
Yes. The BBT-RS retains a compatible working tool; it does not supply the teeth or notches that engage the cup.
No. They identify interfaces within the retaining setup. Choose the frame’s cup tool separately.
The manual limits use to initial loosening and final tightening. Follow its setup and removal sequence instead of treating it as a permanent clamp.
Separate the surface that touches the bicycle from the interface that accepts your wrench, then check access and any required retaining accessory.
