Choose Rotor, Piston and Brake-Gap Tools by Contact

Compare a rotor reference, a correction slot, a piston contact and a gap-positioning aid without treating every cause of brake rub as the same job.

Identify the contact rather than assuming the cause

A rotor-truing slot, piston-spreading contact and gap-positioning plate address different tasks. Brake rub alone does not identify which tool is appropriate or prove that a rotor needs bending. Establish the actual service requirement and the brake maker’s permitted method first.

DT-3 provides a mechanical rotor-deviation reference in its documented support arrangement. Dymoece DM-BPAAT supplies two gap-positioning plates. Neither is a handheld rotor-correction fork, and the plate set does not provide a calibrated numerical clearance.

Compare rotor tools by thickness and engagement

DT-2.2 supplies one long and two short slots and names rotor thickness up to 2.5 mm. This exact revision matters: an older DT-2 limit should not be transferred to it. The two slot depths change the contact available rather than establishing that every damaged rotor can be corrected.

Feedback Rotor Truing Fork 2.0 offers nylon-covered contacts. Pedro’s Disc Wrench II adds fitting contacts to its rotor slots. Choose the construction and extra function that will be used, after matching the actual rotor and accessible contact.

Decide whether fitting-wrench functions are useful

Disc Wrench II has 7 and 8 mm flare-style fitting openings and 2.0 and 2.3 mm rotor slots. These numbers describe different contacts on the same tool. Its quarter-inch square-drive connection accepts suitable separate driving equipment but does not supply a fitting torque or establish a calibrated tool assembly.

Unior 1757/2DP-US instead combines a conical pad-spreading tip with a 2.2 mm rotor slot. The combined arrangement can save a separate purchase when both exact contacts match the intended service, rather than replacing every brake tool.

Check piston material and caliper access

SRAM Ultimate Piston Press uses a slotted body with a screw and knob. PP-1.2 is a handled wedge with a 25 mm tip width, 26 mm insertable length and 3.2 mm wedge thickness. Compare the receiving space and permitted contact, not just the amount of leverage.

PP-1.2 explicitly excludes ceramic-piston systems. A broad brake-brand label therefore cannot establish fit. PS-1 provides a different rotor-section-style contact with a 1.95 mm blade and a temporary rotor-substitute role within its instructions. Match the actual caliper and service stage before choosing.

Keep the extra equipment and limits with the decision

A piston press does not include the fluid, hoses and fittings of a bleeding kit. A reference gauge does not supply its complete support stand. Use the selected offer’s actual contents when budgeting the setup.

Allow the rotor and caliper to cool as directed by the Unior instructions, and retain the exact component maker’s service limits. A tool comparison is not permission to restore every damaged rotor or use the same piston contact on every brake material.

Questions before you choose

Does the thickest rotor slot make a tool the best choice?

Only if the actual rotor and permitted operation match. Contact depth, construction and any useful second function matter too; a slot size does not establish repairability.

Why should I identify the piston material before buying PP-1.2?

Its maker explicitly excludes ceramic-piston systems. A matching brake brand or sufficient physical space alone does not resolve that limitation.

Can the Dymoece plates tell me the required brake gap numerically?

No calibrated thickness or numerical target clearance is established for this offer. They are listed as gap-positioning aids, with the actual brake’s service method still controlling.
