A manual 16-notch tool with an eight-point Shimano adjusting-cap contact at the opposite end.
16 notches; 44–45 mm major / 42.7 mm minor diameter
Different cup diameters can appear under the same crank-system name. Use the actual cup model and contact geometry.
What this choice changes
The BBT-9 combines two separate tasks in one handled tool. Its large end engages matching 16-notch external bottom-bracket cups; the small end serves the eight-point Shimano crank adjusting cap, equivalent in role to the TL-FC16/TL-FC18. This can make it a practical first purchase when the bike needs both contacts, provided its cup diameter is also correct.
The cup contact has a 44–45 mm major diameter and 42.7 mm minor diameter. Park Tool names several older Shimano external cups and matching cups from other makers, but a brand name or the words Hollowtech II alone are not enough to select it. Count the notches and confirm the exact bottom-bracket model, especially when comparing smaller modern cups.
The plated-steel tool includes its own vinyl-dipped handle. Compare the BBT-19.2 when you need a socket format for a compatible torque wrench instead. Their main cup fitting is related, but their permitted jobs differ: Park Tool includes matching 16-notch rotor lockrings in the BBT-9 scope and excludes shallow rotor-lockring use for the BBT-19.2.

The handle is built in. A socket such as BBT-19.2 is the alternative when the job needs a separate compatible driving tool.
Not for the same matching eight-point cap function: the BBT-9 already includes an equivalent contact. A separate TL-FC16 is an alternative format.
Park Tool lists matching 16-notch rotor lockrings for the BBT-9. Confirm the exact fitting; this permission must not be transferred to every 16-notch socket.
Its 3/8-inch square drive and external flats accept separate driving tools. Choose by the required procedure and interface, not only the shared cup size.
Separate the surface that touches the bicycle from the interface that accepts your wrench, then check access and any required retaining accessory.
