Crown-race setting
A tapered column must be checked at the crown-race interface, not only at the upper stem contact.
What this choice changes
The CRS-1 seats the supported crown race on the fork using a setting tube and the appropriate drift. Its three 1-inch and three 1-1/8-inch aluminum drifts provide different contact choices within the named base systems. Choose the drift from the actual race shape and required contact, not from the number of inserts alone.
Park Tool specifies SHIS 26, 27 and 30 and a maximum 340 mm steerer-column length. The relevant column diameter is measured at its base. A tapered steerer’s smaller upper diameter therefore does not by itself establish that this kit matches the crown-race seat.
A hammer or mallet is explicitly separate. This setting operation differs from removing a race with CRP-2 and machining its seat with CRC-1. For oversized 1-1/4 or 1-1/2-inch bases, the maker directs customers to another system rather than treating CRS-1 as universal.

A tapered column must be checked at the crown-race interface, not only at the upper stem contact.
A drift installs a supported race; it does not cut the seat or remove the old race.
No. Check the base/crown-race interface; the top and base can differ.
No. It is a setting system. A compatible removal tool performs that separate step.
The maker explicitly lists the hammer/mallet as separate equipment.
