Choose Cable, Hose, Insertion and Routing Tools by Operation
Build a brake-line tool list from material, fitting and frame passage, comparing dedicated cutters with combined preparation tools.
| Choice | Compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Steel cable or housing | CN-10 | Documented material and cutting task |
| Hydraulic hose cutting | WST033 / WST064 | Compact versus lever construction |
| Combined preparation | TL-BH62 | Supported cutting and insert installation |
| Separate insert operation | WST026 / HBT-1 | Exact hose and fitting scope |
| Frame retrieval | IR-1.3 / WST050 | Connector adapter and passage access |
Start with the material and operation
Write down whether the job involves a steel control cable, its housing or a hydraulic hose. CN-10 addresses its named cable and housing tasks; dedicated hydraulic-hose cutters use a different cutting arrangement. The fact that two tools both cut a brake-related part does not make them substitutes.
Then distinguish cutting, fitting an insert and routing through the frame. A replacement hose can involve all three, but an existing kit may already cover one. Purchase the missing operation rather than choosing a tool solely because it carries the brake-system brand.
Compare dedicated hose cutters by handling format
Jagwire WST033 is the compact Pro hose-cutter format, while WST064 is the Elite lever-operated format. The useful comparison is how the tool is held and operated for its documented hose scope, not a new brake standard created by the handle construction.
A blade shown with a hydraulic hose should not be assumed to cut steel cable. Check the exact selected offer and its replacement-blade provision rather than transferring the contents or capability of another Jagwire model.
Decide whether a combined tool replaces a missing function
Shimano TL-BH62 combines its supported hose-cutting and insert-installation operations and lists a replacement blade. It is worth comparing when both contacts are needed for the specified hose system. If a suitable hose cutter is already owned, a separate insertion tool may be the more relevant purchase.
Jagwire WST026 and Park HBT-1 provide their named insert or barb installation arrangements. Match the fitting and hose support to the exact system. Similar-looking small fittings should not be treated as interchangeable solely because the tool can physically grip the hose.
Choose routing adapters by the connector that must pass
IR-1.3 includes five guide cables with different fittings, including its specified EW-SD300 adapter. Jagwire WST050 uses retractable flexible-magnet retrieval and its own adapters. Compare the actual connector and the access path, not just the presence of a magnet.
An opening requirement for one fitting does not describe every part in the kit. If a connector cannot pass through the intended frame opening, a longer guide cable does not resolve that contact problem. Check the actual routing arrangement before ordering.
Budget the remaining system-specific equipment separately
Cutting and insertion tools do not establish that fluid, olives, inserts or a complete bleeding arrangement are supplied. Compare the itemized contents with the brake maker’s required service equipment. Buy only the fittings and fluid expressly specified for that system.
This guide is a purchase comparison rather than a bleeding procedure. The practical tool list should identify the material, cutter, insertion contact, routing adapter and any separate service equipment, with each tied to the exact job.
Questions before you choose
When is TL-BH62 worth comparing with a dedicated cutter?
When its exact hose and fitting scope matches and both cutting and insert installation are missing from your equipment. If cutting is already covered, compare a supported separate insertion tool.
What is the deciding check for an electronic routing kit?
The actual connector generation and fitting, together with the frame passage and retrieval arrangement. IR-1.3 names EW-SD300; that does not establish the same fit for every magnetic routing kit.
Do these tool sets provide the brake fluid and fittings?
Use the itemized selected offer. The listed cutting and insertion equipment does not establish that unspecified fluid, olives or hose fittings are included.
